A line of storms capable of producing hail and potential flash flooding are moving through southeastern Manitoba early Tuesday morning.

Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm warning for areas including Steinbach, Niverville, and St-Pierre-Jolys just before 5 a.m.

Meteorologists say the storm is capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail and heavy rain.

From Environment Canada:

Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance. Fast-moving water across a road can sweep a vehicle away. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
