Jennifer Jones, Karlee Burgess, Mackenzie Zacharias, Lauren Lenentine and Emily Zacharias are 2023 Provincial Scotties Tournament of Hearts champions.

The Altona/St.Vital fivesome completed an undefeated week at the East St. Paul Arena downing Abby Ackland of East St. Paul 10-5 in Sunday afternoons final.

“It feels amazing to have won back-to-back provincial Scotties,” noted Mackenzie Zacharias who captured the 2022 Provincial Scotties in Carberry with Burgess, her sister Emily and Lenentine. “It was a great week, and we were so thrilled to be able to finish it off strong.”

The 2023 champions, who recorded five deuces, lead 8-3 after six ends.

“We came out ready to win and we were able to apply pressure early,” said Zacharias. “Team Ackland also played great.”

It’s the ninth Provincial Scotties championship for Jones who also won in 2002, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2018.

“It’s so special to be part of this team,” Zacharias said. “Jen has an amazing legacy, and to have the chance to even be a small part of that is incredible.”

Ackland, fourth Meghan Walter, Sara Oliver and Makenzie Elias defeated Kaitlyn Lawes of Fort Rouge 8-5 in the semifinal.

Jones, Burgess, Zacharias, Lenentine and Zacharias, who went 9-0 at East St. Paul, will join three-time defending champion Kerri Einarson at the 2023 national Scotties next month in Kamloops.

CurlManitoba is waiting for confirmation that Team Lawes (CTRS #4) and Team Ackland (CTRS #7) will receive wildcard Scotties berths based on other results across the country as the national Scotties field was finalized this weekend.
