Two people are in custody after attempting to evade Winnipeg police during a traffic stop.

Police noticed a suspicious vehicle early Monday morning nearby Sherbrook Street and Logan Avenue and attempted to pull them over for a traffic stop. The vehicle did not pull over and instead ran a red light at the Logan Avenue and Arlington Street intersection.

A1, the Winnipeg Police Service's helicopter, was notified and begin to follow the vehicle. Officers in the helicopter noticed an object being thrown out of the window onto Fairgrove Bay. Officers on the ground retrieved the object, noting that it was a sawed-off shotgun.

A1 stayed with the vehicle for another half an hour before a male passenger exited the vehicle and was apprehended by police on Young Street.

Ground police then took over. The driver abandoned the vehicle on Roslyn Crescent and ran on foot, where she was shortly apprehended by police.

After being apprehended, police discovered the woman was connected several other thefts across the city, ranging from packages to identification card theft.

The 27-year-old woman was charged with the use of forged documents, several counts of theft, driving while suspended, and other related charges.

The passenger, a 27 year-old-man, was also involved in the package theft was charged with various firearms-related charges and for violating probation restrictions.
