The Government of Canada is providing $10-million over five years for a new facility and new equipment for Red River College's aerospace manufacturing program.

Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Navdeep Bains made the announcement at the college's Notre Dame campus this morning.

He says they're investing in young people so they have access to technology and so they have the skills to succeed.

"We're really focusing on investment on equipment and technology, also investing in research -- we've created an academic position as well -- but it's also investment in, you know, robotics, the training, industry 4.0 -- so it's really about allowing the students to have those types of experiences that industry really need so they're job ready."

The plan is to open a new "Smart Factory," which will be an applied research space, an experiential learning facility, and a technology demonstration site. The college's Centre for Aerospace Technology and Training is also being expanded.

Red River College and StandardAero are each providing in-kind contributions for the projects.
