A busy intersection in downtown Winnipeg is still closed to traffic from a significant water main break Sunday evening.

Traffic was re-routed Sunday evening at the corner of Garry Street and St. Mary Avenue when a water main broke, causing the road to buckle and heave. 

The incident happened around 7:00 pm, and there is no known cause at this time. 

When it occurred, the roadway started to heave.

City of Winnipeg crews were on the scene, as well as police cadets helped redirect traffic.
