Free transit for vets
Winnipeg Transit is offering free rides to veterans, current serving members of the Canadian Armed Forces, and a companion on Remembrance Day.
Those who wish to take a free ride can do so by wearing a military uniform, or by presenting military identification or CF1 card at the time of boarding.
"Providing free transit to veterans and current members of the Canadian armed forces is a way the city is able to recognize the tremendous commitment they have made and continue to make, to our community and country,” says Mayor Brian Bowman.
Transit will operate on a Sunday schedule on November 11, while also displaying “Lest We Forget” as a banner message in rotation with the regular route and destination messages.
At 11 a.m. transit drivers will observe a moment of silence in honour of Remembrance Day. They will pull over and stop their buses at safe locations to recognize one minute of silence.
