This year has been one for the books when it comes to mosquitos in Winnipeg.

In fact, according to Ken Nawolsky from the City of Winnipeg Insect Conrol Branch, this year was one of the lowest for mosquitos in the city since the 1980's.

The highest average trap count this year, Nawolsky said, was around 20, whereas average numbers usually hover around the 80 range.

These stellar numbers are the result of the perfect combination of good weather and good larvidicing at the beginning of spring.

As of now, Nawolsky says there is no way to predict next year's mosquito count, however dry weather going into winter should be a good start to keeping numbers low next summer.
