A cruise in the country is costing one Winnipegger $1202.
Just after nine p.m. on Saturday night, RCMP on Highway 59 noticed a vehicle travelling at almost double the speed limit in between Ile des Chenes and Niverville.
RCMP officers say the vehicle was travelling at 188 km/hour, whereas the speed limit on the southbound stretch of highway is 100 km/hour.
Officers say that the excuse given by the 27-year-old driver was a familiar one.
RCMP Manitoba on Twitter writes that the man said "he looked down and was only doing 110”, then stated his “speedometer may be out."
The speedy driver with the well-worn excuse was fined $1202.
