A 25-year-old is facing a murder charge following the death of a 10-month old.

In August, emergency services in Flin Flon were called to a report of an unresponsive infant in distress. When they arrived, the baby was pronounced deceased.

Officers later learnt that the girl's injuries were not accidental.

"We received a medical report back in January that advised us that the injuries sustained could not have occurred accidentally," RCMP Manitoba Sergeant Paul Manaigre says.

They began a homicide investigation, leading them to a suspect in Sandy Bay, Saskatchewan approximately two-and-a-half hours north of Flin Flon.

"They were both residing in the same home at the time the offence occurred," Manaigre says about the infant and 25-year-old suspect, unable to provide any further details on the relationship.

The suspect was arrested at his home on Tuesday. The man is now being charged with 2nd Degree Murder, set to return to Manitoba for a court appearance.

RCMP is continuing to investigate.
