RCMP are reporting three hikers were rescued this week from the Mantario Trail.

On Saturday evening, RCMP responded to a report of hikers in distress on the trail in Whiteshell Provincial Park. Police say three hikers had set out Friday evening and had planned to finish the hike on Monday. However, they began to experience signs of heat stroke and called for assistance Saturday evening.

STARS attended the scene, however because of nightfall and not having a landing zone in the area, was unable to assist. RCMP were able to remain in contact with the hikers by cellphone during the night.

On Sunday, Lac du Bonnet RCMP chartered a helicopter and located all three adult male hikers on the northern tip of Mantario Lake, on the trail. They were transported to Lac du Bonnet, where they were treated by emergency medical services.

Two of the men were treated and released, while the third man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
