RCMP say they have recovered a drowning victim at a Manitoba Bible camp.

A 17-year-old male counsellor was reported missing on Tuesday afternoon at Steeprock Bay Bible Camp, after going underwater and not resurfacing. A search began at that time and continued with RCMP and Sustainable Development throughout the week.

RCMP issued a release Friday morning, confirm the male has unfortunately drowned and that they recovered his body on Thursday afternoon.

"There is a lot of shock and pain," Ferlin Abrahamson, chair of Steeprock Bay Bible Camp, said late Wednesday evening. The camp is located 90 KM north of Swan River, MB.

Abrahamson said there was 10 staff overseeing the swimming, including a lifeguard, and all were struggling with feelings of guilt.
