RCMP say that a group of youths are responsible for multiple random stabbings in Thompson, Man. Thursday.

The violent crime spree took place in the early morning hours in the northern Manitoba city.

Police say at approximately 2:45 am on Thursday, May 30, officers on patrol located a 24-year-old male suffering from a stab wound on Mystery Lake Road. It is believed the victim was stabbed by at least two teenage males while other persons from the same group watched the attack.

Not even an hour later, at 3:40 a.m., Thompson RCMP responded to a report of a 48-year-old male suffering from a stab wound at the Thompson homeless shelter. It is believed the victim was walking on a path beside the shelter when he was stabbed by two youths. He was transported to the hospital with serious injuries and subsequently sent to Winnipeg for further treatment. He is currently in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.

At 5:20 am, Thompson RCMP responded to a report of a stabbing at Princeton Towers, an apartment complex within the city. Upon arrival, officers located a 27-year-old male victim suffering from multiple stab wounds being treated by Fire and EMS personnel. It is believed the male was walking on a trail by the apartment complex when he was attacked by a group of youths and stabbed multiple times. He was transported to the hospital with serious injuries and subsequently sent to Winnipeg for further treatment. He is currently in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.

During this same time period, a security guard at a local hotel and an adult male walking in Deerwood park reported being attacked by a group of youths. The security guard reported seeing the youths armed with knives.

“These are very serious incidents and our investigators are determined to find those responsible for these senseless acts of violence,” said Insp. Brian Edmonds, Officer in Charge of the Thompson RCMP Detachment. “We know there were multiple people involved in the attacks as well as some that watched these violent encounters; someone knows who is responsible and we are asking them to come forward and share the information.”
