Briercrest Bible College in Saskatchewan is putting a call out to hockey players who love the Lord and want to pursue higher learning.

Head Coach, Brad Cole, hails from Miniota, Manitoba and is a fan of Golden West Radio.   The Briercrest Clippers are now known as Briercrest Hockey and play with the Alberta Colleges Athletic Hockey Conference as the only team from Saskatchewan.

“We’re just putting a feeler out there for any kids who want to further their education but also want to play hockey at a higher level," Cole says.

"Ideally, we’re recruiting guys coming out of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League and have a desire to grow in their faith and also to continue playing hockey at a high level."

40 per cent of the students at Briercrest Bible College are student-athletes, with most of the team’s hockey players in the business program.  There are numerous programs that Briercrest offers to their students pursuing a higher level of education in various fields.

Cole says being a coach of the men’s hockey team at the college has been a blessing to him and his family.

As a father of three, Cole explains why continuing Christian schooling is important for young people.

“In our society, we’re encouraging our children to grow athletically and academically but I think spiritually it maybe gets put on the back-burner.  And so, this is a program that I wish I could have had been exposed to as a young man.”

“I just think it’s really cool for guys to come here who have maybe played Junior hockey and maybe had a bad experience, they can continue to play hockey but also there is such a strong emphasis on them growing in the relationship with God," says Cole.

Briercrest Christian Academy is a Christ-centred, Bible-anchored, and ministry-focused community that includes a high school, college and seminary, located in Caronport, SK.
