After weeks of high ticket counts, this week's COVID-19 enforcement efforts are yielding fewer-than-usual tickets and warnings.

This past week, the province gave out 59 tickets and 87 warnings to people not following the Public Health Orders.

Tickets include:

  • 46 $1,296 tickets to individuals, including one business
  • 11 $298 tickets to individuals for failure to wear a mask in indoor public places
  • two $5,000 tickets to businesses

Thirty-five of the individual tickets were given in relation to gatherings with one of those for a gathering at a provincial park, and 10 for failure to self-isolate.

"Enforcement officials continue to investigate all large gatherings and rallies they are made aware of and advise six $1,296 tickets were issued in relation to rallies. All previous events remain under investigation and additional charges are expected. Officials advise the choice to defy public health orders is a serious offence and violators will be held to account," the province says in a statement.

The previous three weeks saw an average of 155 warnings and 134 tickets per week. Since enforcement began, 4,910 warnings and 1,979 tickets have been issued. Repeat offenders receiving tickets have their fine amounts doubling the original amounts.

The province is reminding graduates that they will need to follow the health orders during celebrations.

To date, $2,696,890 worth of fines has been handed out in the 1,979 tickets given.
