The Manitoba government is celebrating International Women's Day by recognizing the great strides of women in science and engineering today.

The province announced today that it will support the annual 'Make Your Move' event taking place this Saturday, March 11 at the University of Manitoba. This event features hands-on activities for girls. and these are led by female engineers.

"We acknowledge the triumphs and challenges women in these careers face," said Sport, Culture, and Heritage Minister Rochelle Squires said in a release today. "We hope to encourage girls in Manitoba to explore these exciting fields of study."

The government will sponsor a team of girls, and will provide three women engineers from the civil service to mentor them.

International Women's Day celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.
