The province is looking to help people get "hooked" on fishing by letting people fish without a licence at its parks this weekend.

Along with free entry to provincial parks for the month of February, those angling for fish will not need a licence from February 13 to 15.

“Manitobans are encouraged to grab a rod and reel and safely head out onto the ice to catch a good time this weekend, while exploring the many fishing opportunities this province has to offer,” Agriculture and Resource Development Minister Blaine Pedersen says.

Fishers will be expected to follow conservation rules.

The weekend licenceless limits include:

  • four walleye/sauger
  • four northern pike
  • two smallmouth bass
  • one lake trout
  • one channel catfish
  • two stocked trout

Those with a regular angling licence will be able to follow their regular restrictions.

Before heading out, fishers are asked to be mindful of the ice.

They are also expected to follow the current public health orders, including sticking to groups of five people or fewer.
