What started as largely peaceful protests Friday night in Portland, Oregon, ended with the burning of a Bible and flags.

Tensions have been rising in the American city for several weeks as federal agents moved in to quell protests. In response groups such as the 'Wall of Moms' responded to put themselves between agents and protesters.

The New York Post says that those tensions seemed to be easing as agents made a deal to allow local officials to handle the protests.

However, the Post reports, that shortly after midnight a protester took a Bible and lit it on fire as others gathered.

Protesters added an American flag as well as a Blue Lives Matter flag to the fire outside a federal courthouse.

The fire was later put out by a group called Moms United for Black Lives Matter.
