Nearly two months after announcing his cancer diagnosis, Alex Trebek is being candid about his unexpected difficulties fighting the disease.

In a video posted two months ago, Jeopardy! gameshow host Alex Trebek announced he had begun his fight against cancer, vowing to beat the low survival rates of the disease.

The encouraging and optimistic tone of his initial announcement, however, has taken a turn in light of the emotional toll the disease has taken on Trebek.

According to CBN News, Trebek got a little more personal about his ongoing struggles in a recent interview on Good Morning America.

Despite positive results from treatment so far, Trebek revealed to fans that he has been struggling with depression throughout treatment.

“My oncologist tells me I’m doing well even though I don’t always feel it. I’ve had kidney stones, I’ve had ruptured discs, so I’m used to dealing with pain,” said Trebek.

But those more temporary health concerns have not taken the emotional toll on the Jeopardy! host that cancer has.

“What I’m not used to dealing with [is] the surges that come on suddenly of deep, deep sadness and it brings tears to my eye."

He says that cancer indicators have been going down, positive news for the outlook of his health, and following another round of chemotherapy next week doctors will reassess Trebek's health status.

Trebek stressed huge thankfulness for the outpouring of support he has received from fans, friends, and viewers since his initial diagnosis, calling himself "extremely lucky" to receive the huge amount of love he has been given during this difficult time.

The gameshow host says he plans to use the summer months as a time to rest and recover from his treatments in preparation for those still to come.

Trebek also still plans to fulfil the remaining three years on his contract as the host of Jeopardy!
