Two males are facing serious charges following the unprovoked assault of a 29-year-old in a hotel parking lot.

On August 6, police were flagged down at 10:55 p.m. to go to a hotel parking lot in the 100 block of Higgins Avenue. Once entering the lot, a man was found severely beaten. Despite being transported to the hospital in critical condition, the 29-year-old man died in the hospital.

On Tuesday, the Winnipeg Police Service shares that they are charging two people in the death of 29-year-old Joshua Hansen. Police say both men were involved in assaults on the same evening of the homicide.

The first being charged was taken into custody on August 11 at 10:30 a.m. in the first 100 block of Martha Avenue.

After investigating, police say that on the same evening of the homicide the 34-year-old had gotten into an altercation that sent another person to the hospital.

At 8:30 p.m, the 34-year-old suspect and another male got into a fight in the first 100 block of Martha Avenue. Police say the suspect stabbed the other male in the dispute, sending him to the hospital where the victim was treated and released.

Now, the 34-year-old is facing three charges: Manslaughter, Aggravated Assault, and Possess Weapon.

Additionally, a second suspect in the hotel homicide was taken into custody on Sunday.

Police say this suspect, a 17-year-old male, also assaulted an individual prior to the homicide. Authorities say a woman was stabbed minutes before the unprovoked assault on Hansen. The woman was later treated and released by a hospital.

The teen is the following charges:

  • Manslaughter
  •  Aggravated Assault
  •  Possess Weapon
  •  Fail to Comply with Sentence x2
  •  Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order x2

Authorities say both men were detained.
