Winnipeg Police have identified a woman whose body was found among recycling materials by workers at a Winnipeg recycling facility last Friday evening.

The woman has been identified as 33-year-old Mary Madeline Yellowback (Ross).

Public information officer Constable Tammy Skrabek told reporters this morning there's still no confirmation on a cause of death.

"We're still referring to this death as a suspicious death. Until (the homicide unit) can positively determine that it may in fact be a homicide or other means of death, at this time it is classified as suspicious."

Police believe Yellowback (Ross) was transported to the recycling depot (on Omand's Creek Boulevard) from a secondary location. Investigators have determined Yellowback (Ross) was in the downtown area Thursday evening. They are looking to speak with anyone who may have had contact with her, or anyone who may have seen her, from Thursday evening to Friday evening.

Yellowback (Ross) is described as Indigenous, approximately 5'7" and 135 pounds. A picture of her in the downtown area on the evening of September 27th shows her wearing blue jeans and a grey, hooded sweater with a red R on the front.
