A man who was already behind bars is facing charges in relation to an April homicide.

On Tuesday, Winnipeg Police Service officers visited Milner Ridge Correctional Centre, located 20 kilometres southwest of Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba in the Agassiz Provincial Forest with a warrant for the murder of a 21-year-old.

On April 16, Hayder Hassan was at a cemetery in the 1200 block of McGillivray Boulevard during rush hour when he was shot, later dying in the hospital. At the time, officers were looking for dashcam footage of the event, as there were many drivers nearby.

"The Winnipeg Police Service would like to thank the public for their assistance during this investigation," police say in a statement.

When officers arrived at Milner Ridge on Tuesday, they charged a 24-year-old Winnipeg man. He is now facing Second Degree Murder and two counts of Fail to Comply Probation Order. The suspect is remaining in custody at the correctional facility.

This investigation is ongoing. The WPS is asking those with information to call the Homicide Unit at 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
