The Winnipeg Police Service says a man is facing charges following a serious altercation occurring over a senior's potted flowers.

On Sunday evening, a man in his 70s in the Kern Park neighbourhood noticed his front lawn's flower pots were being picked up and placed into a man's trunk.

The senior approached the suspect and tried to stop the theft. The suspect then closed the trunk on the senior's head and pointed a knife at him. The man, and a female passenger, then fled.

Around 7 p.m. the Winnipeg Police Service was notified and Major Crimes began investigating.

On Tuesday, officers located and arrested a 40-year-old man. The man, now released on an Appearance Notice as mandated by the Criminal Code, is facing robbery-related charges. His 36-year-old female passenger was arrested but is not being charged.
