There was some good news today for child and adolescent mental health patients in Manitoba.

The Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba (CHFM) unveiled a fundraising campaign today for $300,000. The campaign will raise money for exercise equipment such as a stair climber, cross country ski machine, and more.

Renovations to allow more lighting, and fencing for an outdoor green space will also take place as a result of the campaign.

Tanya Williams from the Children's Hospital Foundation said that "more time spent outside and in green spaces can help kids fight against mental health issues like depression, anxiety, and stress. Making sure our kids have access to indoor and outdoor programming is a critical way to increase these positive effects on their health and quality of life while providing coping skills for the future."

Stefano Grande, President and CEO of the CHFM, said that they're really excited to announce a fundraising campaign hand in hand with the Health Sciences Centre, the inpatient mental health department.

"We are going to our community of donors and asking for their help in raising $300,000 for a reinvigorated play space for the kids that use the services of the mental health department," Grande said.

According to Grande, about 600 children use the facility per year and felt it was important to invest in the physical play spaces of the centre.
