An American pastor is waiting for his passport to be returned after denied by Indian courts.

Pastor Bryan Nerren from the International House of Prayer Ministries in Shelbyville is wanting to his family after being detained for three months. IHPM is hopeful for the return of their pastor despite the decision to detain him further in India.

"God answers prayers through a person. You could be the answer to a million prayers." IHPM says in a Facebook post.

The pastor was arrested in October and had his passport removed, making it impossible for him to go home. Christian Today says authorities questioned him after discovering a large number of funds at the border, which Nerren then said was for his congregation. CBN reports that the pastor says the pastor intended to use it to fund a two-day conference. The conference expected one thousand attendees but was cancelled after the funds were detained.

Nerren has spent the past 17 years preaching and teaching in India and Nepal. Nerren's work was focussed on training new Sunday teachers in the region.

An online petition calling for his freedom has received 139,397 signatures to daye.
