The "Be Aware. Park with Care" campaign officially starts today, aimed at educating driers on special parking conditions.

The campaign, launched on April 4, encourages drivers to follow parking laws when stopping or parking around schools, fire-lanes and designated parking spaces. Starting today, the Winnipeg Parking Authority will begin to mail out parking tickets.

The City said that illegally parked vehicles at school pick up and drop offs can create a serious safety hazard and cause traffic delays, while parking or stopping in a fire lane can delay emergency response times.

The WPA also highlighted designated parking spaces, which are reserved for persons with physical disabilities and a properly displayed permit.
