Premier Brian Pallister and Mayor Brian Bowman are recognizing the contributions of Manitobans during World War II.

Victory in Europe during World War II occurred 75 years ago, marking the end of the six-year-long war.

Families across the world, including her in Manitoba, were greatly affected by the war. Premier Brian Pallister says that many young Canadians "left our shores" with many never returning home.

"The legacy of the sacrifices that were made on our behalf is a freedom that resonates from coast to coast to coast with each and every sunrise," Pallister says. "Let us never forget that virtually every family in this nation was touched by the war that gripped the world from 1939 to 1945 and the sacrifices made by all who served."
