Canada is on the hunt for some new astronauts, and the selection has gone down to 32 candidates, including three original Winnipeggers.

The Canadian Space Agency has high standards for their candidates including qualities like good judgement, integrity, public speaking, reasoning, and teamwork, as well as specific requirements such as a bachelor's degree in engineering or science, and/or a doctorate in medicine or dentistry. There are many more physical, mental, and experiential requirements, which you can find listed on their website. 

Of the 32 candidates that have been shortlisted, there are three that were born in Winnipeg.Allyson Hindle, who now lives in Boston, Massachusetts and is an assistant professor at the Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School, 

1. Allyson Hindle, who now lives in Boston, Massachusetts and is an assistant professor at the Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School.

2. Sara Spangelo, who now lives in Mountain View, California and is a systems engineer for Google X as well as the CEO and co-founder of Swarm Technologies.

3. Michelle Whitty, who now lives in Calgary, Alberta and is a captain in the Canadian Armed Forces and a qualified engineering officer. 

There will be two candidates of the 32 short-listed that will be chosen to join the space program. They will be required to relocate to Houston, Texas as of August, 2017.
