One person is in hospital following a pair of fires on Main Street Saturday night.

The first fire broke out just after 7 p.m. on Saturday in a hotel on the corner of Main Street and Sutherland Avenue.

Most of the flames were knocked out when crews arrived at the scene, thanks to the building's sprinkler system. Firefighters knocked out the rest of the fire and declared it under control a short time later.

Occupants of the building self-evacuated before crews arrived. One person was assessed at the scene and transported to hospital in unstable condition.

Damage was contained, for the most part, to the suite where the fire started.

Meanwhile, a second fire broke out just before midnight in a commercial building up the road in the 1200 block of Main Street.

Heavy smoke and flames were coming from the building when crews arrived. Firefighters quickly determined it was unsafe to enter the building and began fighting from outside. It took crews over an hour to get the fire under control.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of both fires remains under investigation.
