Two horses are safe at home after enjoying a walk during the early-morning rush hour.

At 5:17 a.m. this morning, two horses were seen on Plessis Road. Police say they received a call that the horses were loose and wandering in traffic near St. Boniface.

Luckily, the Winnipeg Police Service had two available officers who are familiar with horses. The pair arrived, calming the horses and escorting them out of traffic. The officers were then able to remove them from the road onto the side, putting ropes on their necks and walking with them to a nearby gravel road.

The officers, with horses in tow, then searched nearby stables to see if they were missing a pair of horses.

An hour after the call, at 6:10, the horses were taken to a nearby stable where the stable's owner took care of the animals until the owner could be found.

The horses and their owner are now reunited.

An earlier release from the Winnipeg Police Service stated this incident occurred on June 15. It has since been corrected
