A town's mayor is sharing his optimism about getting an RCMP detachment.

On Tuesday, the Town of Niverville announced they will be getting their own RCMP detachment, set to be built at the Administration Office campus.

"The Town has been meeting with officials from RCMP over the last year to secure the go-forward strategy on continuing and enhancing the protective services the RCMP provides to Niverville," the statement says.

Four officers could be permanently stationed to this detachment, with extra officers and administration staff.

"Mayor Myron Dyck would like to thank those members of the RCMP for their openness to working with the Town on this important project for the community and looks forward to seeing their additional presence in our community and continuing Niverville's relationship with the RCMP."

A Winnipeg architecture firm will be designing the detachment. Construction begins next year, with it being anticipated to open in the first half of 2023.
