Manitoba is hoping to help the influx of newcomers to the province feel welcome this weekend.

There are several events planned specifically for newcomers including a Crokicurl event at the Forks followed by skating and tobogganing from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, which anyone is welcome to attend.

There will also be a free concert at the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra on Sunday called "Once Upon A Dance." The executive director of the WSO, Trudy Schroeder, explained that they wanted to pick a show where language wouldn't be a barrier. They also thought that a full classical music performance may be less relatable for many of the newcomers. This caused them to settle on the "Once Upon A Dance" performance which also will display the history and many cultures represented in our province through dance.

About 1,000 tickets were made available free of charge for newcomers and their families, and it has already sold out with a waiting list.
