New project to turn shipping containers into housing for Indigenous homeless

A collection of Winnipeg organizations are working to build housing for Indigenous homeless people in the city's downtown out of shipping containers.

The Village Project is a 22-unit communal housing development, and it has already received 2-point-7 million dollars in federal funding.

End Homelessness Winnipeg says the project is being expedited since COVID-19 and the extreme cold are making the city's homeless even more vulnerable.

An explosion at a homeless camp in the city last week left one person dead.
