The community of Brochet is mourning the loss of three people after poor weather ruined a boating trip.

RCMP say a 50-year-old male, a 49-year-old female and a 42-year-old male, all from Brochet, have drowned. On Monday afternoon, they, along with a 28-year-old woman, were travelling in rough weather by boat from Kinoosao, Saskatchewan to Brochet. Mounties say they never arrived.

Before 4 p.m. that day, they learnt a boat was found capsized in the water off of Porcupine Island, on the Manitoba/Saskatchewan border on Reindeer Lake. A 28-year-old woman was found alive and was pulled from the water. She was brought to the hospital. At this point, officers believed the other three passengers were dead.

Brochet volunteers began a search party, finding the remaining three dead. RCMP say they were not wearing life jackets.

RCMP in Thompson are investigating.
