There's still no relief for much of western Canada from bone-chilling and dangerous temperatures.

Environment Canada says that the extreme cold will persist for at least a few more days.

An Arctic ridge of high pressure has allowed for a very cold air mass to settle over the west, stretching from the Yukon and northern B.C. all the way into northwestern Ontario.

Along with winds of 10 to 20 km/h, extreme wind chill values between -40 and -50 are expected over most of southern Manitoba and Saskatchewan once again today.

The bitterly cold air will remain over the Prairies for much of the next week.

Environment Canada reminds the public that extreme cold puts everyone at risk.

Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.

The national forecaster recommends people dress warmly and in layers that you can remove if you get too warm. The outer layer should be wind resistant.
