In the summer there will always still be time for hockey and learning about Jesus.

Hockey Ministries International (HMI) is hosting their week of Hockey camp at the Southdale Community Centre.

This week they have 67 campers, ranging from ages nine to 17.

Mickey Friesen, in his first year as Camp Director, has worked at the camp for 15 years as a camp counsellor.

Friesen says, "It is a new experience every year and is just a great way to witness to kids and have them hear the Word."

The camp is a full week of skills training - on and off the ice - alongside small-group devotional time and evening chapels.

Friesen says, "We start off the day with breakfast and head out to the ice. ... The kids have devotion a time throughout the day and chapel in the evening. ... It's a really busy schedule and lots of activities."

This week's chapel has speaker Daniel Fewster from Maranatha Niverville. The ice instructors range from Junior League players all the way up to the NHL with Eric Fehr and James Reimer both visiting the Southdale arena.

Friesen says, "We have two devotional times throughout the day where the counsellor has their small group. During our devotion time, there is an HMI book that is provided. If the campers have questions or other topics to discuss, we are welcome to discuss that."

"Some kids have never heard the Gospel before."

Friesen invites all hockey-loving kids to check out HMI hockey camp in the summer: "The skill level doesn't matter. ... It's a good development time for all the kids.

"It's just a blast. It's high-energy - there is a lot to do all week. It's a great time to spend some time with friends, learn about hockey, and learn about God. It's a lot of fun."
