As part of Team Canada, a Manitoban Junior Curling champion is going to Krasnoyarsk, Russia to compete in the world championship.

Jordan Peters will be competing for the title of World's best Junior Curling team from February 15 - February 22, 2020.

Peters began curling at the age of four with his father. "Ever since then, I've grown in the sport," Peter says. Now 21, Peters says it is harder than it appears to pursue the sport. "It gets rough, I've lost a lot of games; you just persevere, keep practicing, and you'll achieve your goals," Peters says.

This has been a long time coming for Peters. In 2017, he and his team won the provincial championship and competed in the national competition. Unfortunately, they lost during the finals.

"I know that win or lose it's part of god's plan so I got at it with that kind of attitude."

"When we lost that final game, it was really hard to bounce back from that, but my faith really helped," Peters says. The athlete works to keep his relationship with God strong through prayer and Bible reading.

Peters is ecstatic about the opportunity. He says this year, "we were prepared for it. It is an amazing experience, I feel all the support back home and it's incredible."

His pre-game ritual is quite simple. "I calm myself down before the game by reminding myself that it's just a sport. I know that win or lose it's part of God's plan, so, I got at it with that kind of attitude," Peter says.

When they arrive in Russia, they will be competing and travelling with the women's Manitoba team as well.
