A local woman is hoping to return a 100-year-old Bible to its true home.

Melanie Wiens is a collector of antiques. She says she received a Bible dating back to the late 1880's as a gift. However, upon discovering clues the item may be a family heirloom, she is now hoping to find the descendants of the Bible's original owner.

"That's where it belongs, I don't feel it belongs to me," Wiens says. "Even if there aren't any direct descendants, maybe there are nieces or nephews, if there's someone in the family that's interested, that's where it belongs."

The Bible contains an inscription that reads: "Given to Matilda Falk by her sister Minnie in 1901."

An obituary of John Falk, born in 1881, is also pasted onto the front cover.

Wiens says she hopes the obituary or memoriam could help identify the family.

"I would love to see it go to the descendants of John Falk, Matilda, or Minnie Falk," she says. "It is in amazing condition."

The small German Bible is leather bound with gilded pages and a purple ribbon.

Anyone with information on the family is invited to reach out to Wiens at melaniedwiens@gmail.com.

"I am not interested in selling Matilda's Bible," Wiens says. "This treasure should go the family of the people whose names are written inside."
