A man charged in a high-speed collision that killed a Winnipeg mother pleaded guilty in provincial court on Monday.

Armand Chartrand, 43, was charged with criminal negligence causing death and criminal negligence causing bodily harm in relation to the crash which killed 30-year-old mother Jennifer Dethmers. The crash sent six others to hospital, including Dethmers' infant son, who died in hospital a month later.

Police had tried to pull over Chartrand's vehicle on a Saturday afternoon in September when he fled. Dethmers collided with the other vehicle almost immediately at the intersection of Andrews Street and Boyd Avenue, the Winnipeg Police Service originally reported.

The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) had later cleared the officers of any wrongdoing in attempting to conduct the traffic stop.

Dethmers' partner and stepdaughter were also seriously injured in the crash but survived.

The Crown is seeking a nine-year sentence for Chartrand. He will be sentenced at a later date.
