A 65-year-old man is facing several charges in relation to sexual assaults involving children that police allege occurred in the 1980s while the man was involved with a Winnipeg church theatre group.

The Winnipeg Police Service says that in early December 2021 investigators with the Winnipeg Police Child Abuse Unit (CAU) by a survivor of one of the assaults.

The WPS says that during the CAU's investigation two additional survivors were identified regarding sexual assaults that had occurred at various locations in the city during the 1980s. Police says that all three, who were children at the time, were known to the accused. Const. Rob Carver of the WPS says that the accused met some, but not all, of the victims through the church group.

On February 24, 2022, the Child Abuse Unit arrested Joseph Floyd Delaney of Lundar, Man. He has been charged with:

- Sexual Assault x 3
- Sexual Interference x 2
- Invitation to Sexual Touching x 2
- Assault
- Gross Indecency

The accused was released on bail with conditions as mandated by the Criminal Code of Canada.

Police are not naming the church but say it is in the southwest part of Winnipeg. Delaney was specifically involved with theatre productions. Carver says that he doesn't want to focus specifically on the church theatre aspect because there may be other victims that met Delaney through other activities.

Anyone with information or who wishes to speak to investigators is asked to call the Child Abuse Unit line at 204-986-3296 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
