On Sunday the Winnipeg Police Service came to a call about a disturbance that turned into an emergency situation quickly. 

On May 22, 2022, at 4:09 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a residence in the Maples area of Winnipeg for a report of a domestic dispute. Soon after, officers encountered a male with a knife, and he subsequently barricaded himself in a bedroom with several children.

A standoff ensued for approximately four hours.

With the assistance of the Crisis Negotiation Unit and other units, including General Patrol and the Tactical Support Team, the man was taken into custody, and the incident was safely resolved.

A 38-year-old male of Winnipeg has been charged with:

- Forcible Confinement (x3)
- Possession of a Weapon
- Break & Enter with Intent - Dwelling House

He was detained in custody and is not being named at this time to protect the family's identity. The Winnipeg Police Service's Victim & Volunteer Services, in conjunction with the Manitoba Justice's Victim Services unit, will continue to provide support to the family going forward.
