Materials needed

  • 2 pieces of white card stock
  • Aluminum foil
  • Tape
  • Paper clip

1. Cut a square hole

Fold one piece of card stock in half and cut a square hole in the middle.

2. Tape foil over hole

Tape a square piece of aluminum foil over top of the square hole you cut in the white card stock.

3. Poke a hole in foil

Take the paper clip and poke a small hole in the center of the aluminum foil.

4. Watch the eclipse

Place the second piece of card stock on the ground and hold the piece with foil above it. The foil should be facing up.

Match your shadow with the card stock on the ground. The further away you stand, the bigger the image will be. You can also place the second piece in a shaded area, then stand in the sun to make the image more defined.
