It's only a weather statement right now, but a major winter storm is expected to hit Winnipeg and southern Manitoba on Monday.

Environment Canada released a special weather statement this afternoon for most of Manitoba. A storm system is developing over the western United States and is forecasted to track across the Dakotas Monday and intensify as it moves into northwest Ontario.

Winnipeg could see rain or freezing rain Monday morning before changing to snow later in the day. 5 to 10 cm of snow is expected, with winds increasing and causing poor visibility across southern Manitoba.

The track and timing is not exact yet, but CHVN will continue to keep you updated as the storm gets closer. If you have updates in your area about the storm, call us in the studio at 1-877-951-CHVN, or tweet reports to @chvn951.
