An extreme low is headed through Manitoba over the next two days, bringing with it a large winter storm.

A large portion of the province is under a winter storm/blizzard warning as a low-pressure system heads through Manitoba, bringing rain, snow, wind, and even thunderstorms.

Southeast Manitoba is looking at blizzard conditions this evening and up to 25 cm of snow. Highways are already being reported as icy, so if you are in that area or need to head there, don't. Northern Manitoba isn't getting any rain, but is expected to get anywhere from 30-60 cm of snow over the next two days.

Here in Winnipeg, there is a risk of a thunderstorm early this evening, with the rain eventually changing to snow, with less than 10 cm expected to fall before the storm finishes tomorrow night.

Natalie Hasell from Environment Canada advises against any travel at all over the next 24 hours. "Anything that fell as liquid today will refreeze tonight," Hasell says. "Not only will you have reduced visibility . . . you will also have very icy conditions underneath that."
