‘Looks like winter’: Alberta Clipper brings plenty of snowfall to Manitoba

Central and southern Manitoba is looking a lot more wintery this morning. 

An Alberta clipper rolling through the province has brought plenty of the white stuff to, what had been, a rather snowless scene.  

“General snowfall amounts we've seen so far across the City of Winnipeg and the Red River valley, are roughly around 8 to 12 centimeters, potentially as high as 15 centimeters,” says Keane Kokolsky, an operational meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada.  

“The heaviest snowfall has more or less occurred already,” he says, though notes that there will be additional accumulation through the day on Thursday, as the storm lingers over the southern and central parts of the province.  

Following the snowfall, Manitobans can expect gusty winds and dropping temperatures.  

Commuters are reminded to drive to the conditions with slippery roads and potential limited visibility expected as winds up to 60 km/h blow the freshly fallen snow.
