A local swimmer has been in the water since birth and has no desire to leave. Now, she is competing in the 2017 Canada Summer Games.

13-year-old Eilishrose Hazlitt was born to two water-loving parents and was put in the lake early on. But competitive swimming wasn't something she had thought of until five years ago.

"I had a friend that swan and then she sort of got me into it, but I've always loved swimming," Hazlitt said.

Now, the young teenager is preparing for her first Canada Games.

"I'm sort of nervous, but not about racing," Hazlitt said. "I'm nervous about how I'm going to do."

"I'm going to try and not do terrible," she joked.

Her dad, Garth Hazlitt, had her in the water before she was six months old and is very excited for his daughter's chance on the big stage.

"Super proud and nervous," the elder Hazlitt said. "She's worked super hard and is super committed.

"It's good to see her rewarded for her dedication."

Hazlitt hopes that she can continue her progress and eventually make it to an even bigger stage.

"[The Olympics] are a little far away, but my goal is Nationals," Hazlitt said.
