A program new to Winnipeg has partnered with a favourite local eatery to provide both hungry customers and hungry youth with healthy meals.
The Mealshare program engages restaurants to donate a portion of proceeds from items on their menu to help reduce, and ultimately end, youth hunger. Each time a Mealshare meal is ordered from a participating restaurant, Mealshare provides a simple, healthy meal to a child in need.
One way you can participate in this great program? Pay a visit to your friendly, neighbourhood Stella's.
The locally-based cafe chain will be offering a new rotating menu item each month for customers to purchase that will simultaneously help feed a hungry youth. Stella's Mexican breakfast will be the Mealshare purchase option for September, as decided by a social media vote.
As the program has just been introduced to Winnipeg, Stella's partnership with Mealshare began only this year. Stella's Vice-President Grant Anderson says the program felt like a good fit for what they do.
"We like to be connected to the community, so we got on board," the vice-president shared. "I think that it's always important to be able to give back to the community that supports you."
Community contribution and support is certainly not a foreign concept to the local hotspot, which donates much of their day-old bread to local non-profit organizations such as Agape Table and Winnipeg Harvest.
"It's always good to be engaged and to give back to the community that has been so generous to us."
