The annual 'living flag' is getting a new look this year for Canada's 150th birthday.

For the seventh year, the Canada Day Living Flag will take place in Winnipeg, as the city looks to defend it's title of 'largest living flag in Canada'. This year, the traditional Canadian flag will instead become the iconic maple leaf.

"A flag is super special, but the maple leaf was a nice thing to do this year," said Tineke de Jong from Downtown Winnipeg BIZ. "It fits the space a little bit better than the flag would and it allows us to accomidate more people."

The location this year will be at the iconic intersection of Portage and Main. Participants are asked to wear red, while the first 2500 will receive a special shirt.

"It's going to be awesome and we hope to see you there," de Young said.

Portage and Main will be closed from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., while Portage Avenue East will be closed starting at 6:00 a.m. to accomidate the living leaf.
