Two kittens are safe this morning thanks to Winnipeg firefighters.

The Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in the 600 block of Pritchard just after 7:30 on Wednesday evening.

The City of Winnipeg says in a release that the one and a half storey home was vacant.

"Upon arrival on scene crews found a well-involved fire which had spread to a neighbouring house which was also vacant," officials say. Crews fought the fire from outside until they were able to get the fire under control and enter both buildings.

As crews were searching both homes they found two kittens in one of the homes. They were able to bring the kittens out to safety. The City's Animal Services Agency was able to provide care for the animals.

The City says that no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.
