Just one hour after kids finished skating on the rink, the Kelwood Arena roof collapsed on January 14 due to the weight of the snow.

Kelwood, which sits 200 kilometers from Winnipeg, avoided possible tragedy when the roof of their community rink collapsed. Kids had been skating on the ice the hour before it fell but were all gone when it did.

There were also people coming to shovel the 66 cm of snow off the roof and thankfully were not on the roof when it did fall.

The next step for the community is finding out if insurance will cover the repairs. Otherwise, they may not be able to have a rink, which is a popular spot for kids in the small town.
