Kanye West has took home two top Billboard music awards Wednesday and became the first to win both Billboard's top Gospel album and top Christian album.

West's album, Jesus Is King, took home the two top faith awards and two other Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs).

In addition to Top Gospel Album and Top Christian Album, West also won Top Gospel Artist for Jesus Is King and Top Gospel Song for "Follow God."

Billboard announced West's win online, calling him a "controversial star" and declaring him the first artist to win both Top Gospel Album and Top Christian Album.

Jesus Is King, West's first Christian album, which he calls "an expression of the gospel." He released the album after a public announcement he would no longer be producing secular music.

West was also nominated for Top Christian Artist, won by Lauren Daigle, and Top Christian Song.

On his Twitter account, West thanked God and Billboard for the awards and nominations.

"Thank God for the favor the increase and... thank Billboard awards for the 9 nominations and 4 wins," West says.
